John Jenner is an actor, singer, scriptwriter, songwriter, aspiring film-maker who is attempting to form his own film company to make and produce films within the borders of Wales and his own locale of Gwent and surrounding areas. He has written a number of stories which can be made there though not of a parochial nature. He wants a wide audience beyond Wales and believes his stories can fill that aspiration. He has adapted his story, The Legacy of Joe Farr, from one of his own scripts and hopes it will take him along the path to help him achieve this dream.
Old man Joe Farr, a recluse living on the mountain which overlooks the small Welsh valley of Cwmhyfryd, dies alone after succumbing to his third heart attack. The vicar of that parish is given the duty of calling Joe’s son, Jack, estranged from his father and home for 20 years and now living in Oklahoma, USA, to inform Jack of his father’s sad death. He also has to inform Jack that he is now the recipient of over £5,000,000 and a newly built Spanish-style hacienda house which confuses Jack as there was never any money in his family. The only way Jack can inherit is to return to Cwmhyfryd and meet the people responsible for this strange bequest. Jack does so – only to confront the same anger and hatred he lived through from the people when he lived here before – including having to deal with his former fiancée who jilted him at the altar. Just as Jack thinks his life is calming down, he finds a murdered woman on his living room floor. A second murder, also implicating Jack, is committed and Jack is now the subject of a police investigation.
Margaret Duggan, known as the ‘Matriarch’, rules over a criminal empire that holds the township and people of Bridgeleigh in its oppressive grip. Extortion, prostitution, protection rackets, and murder are all hallmarks of the Duggan Family’s reign of terror. With the support of a crooked police officer and a corrupt lawyer, Margaret’s power seems unassailable.
Into this dark and dangerous world, a mysterious stranger arrives, driven by a burning desire to end the Duggan Family’s tyranny. He begins his crusade by targeting Margaret’s only son, setting in motion a chain of events that will lead to a bloody and brutal war.
As the battle between good and evil unfolds, the people of Bridgeleigh find themselves caught in the crossfire, their lives and futures hanging in the balance. Will the stranger’s quest for justice prevail, or will the Matriarch’s iron grip on the town remain unbroken?
